Tuning Motion

WaveSync tuning is easiest when you adjust one group at a time.

Step 1: Rest Height

Use:

  • Buoyancy Strength
  • Point Radius
  • Max Point Force

If the object jumps upward, lower Buoyancy Strength first.

Step 2: Roll and Pitch

Use:

  • Surface Normal Influence
  • Water Angular Drag
  • Upright Stability
  • Upright Damping

For heavy ships, keep Surface Normal Influence low. For buoys, it can be higher.

Step 3: Smoothness

Use:

  • Height Smoothing
  • Normal Smoothing

Increase Height Smoothing when vertical movement feels sharp. Increase Normal Smoothing when roll and pitch feel twitchy.

Set either value to 0 to disable that smoothing.

Practical Presets

Object Buoyancy Strength Surface Normal Influence Height Smoothing Normal Smoothing
Heavy pirate ship 2-6 0.05-0.2 0.15-0.35 0.25-0.6
Small boat 3-8 0.15-0.35 0.08-0.25 0.15-0.35
Buoy 2-5 0.4-0.8 0.05-0.2 0.1-0.25

Debugging Float Points

Enable Draw Debug on WaveBuoyancy.

  • Cyan lines show active submerged points.
  • Gray lines show points above the sampled water height.

If most points are gray while the object should float, move the points lower or increase Point Radius.
