Tuning Motion
WaveSync tuning is easiest when you adjust one group at a time.
Step 1: Rest Height
Use:
Buoyancy StrengthPoint RadiusMax Point Force
If the object jumps upward, lower Buoyancy Strength first.
Step 2: Roll and Pitch
Use:
Surface Normal InfluenceWater Angular DragUpright StabilityUpright Damping
For heavy ships, keep Surface Normal Influence low. For buoys, it can be higher.
Step 3: Smoothness
Use:
Height SmoothingNormal Smoothing
Increase Height Smoothing when vertical movement feels sharp. Increase Normal Smoothing when roll and pitch feel twitchy.
Set either value to 0 to disable that smoothing.
Practical Presets
| Object | Buoyancy Strength | Surface Normal Influence | Height Smoothing | Normal Smoothing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Heavy pirate ship | 2-6 | 0.05-0.2 | 0.15-0.35 | 0.25-0.6 |
| Small boat | 3-8 | 0.15-0.35 | 0.08-0.25 | 0.15-0.35 |
| Buoy | 2-5 | 0.4-0.8 | 0.05-0.2 | 0.1-0.25 |
Debugging Float Points
Enable Draw Debug on WaveBuoyancy.
- Cyan lines show active submerged points.
- Gray lines show points above the sampled water height.
If most points are gray while the object should float, move the points lower or increase Point Radius.
